Celebrating Earth Day: Designing Beautiful, Sustainable Spaces

Earth Day (22nd April) is a moment to reflect on how the choices we make, both personally and professionally, impact the world around us. In interior design, sustainability is no longer a “nice to have”; it’s an essential part of creating thoughtful, future-conscious homes.

At PJB Interiors, we are committed to incorporating environmentally responsible materials and practices wherever possible across our show homes. We work closely with our developer partners to ensure our designs align with their sustainability goals and wider environmental ethos—because great design shouldn’t come at the expense of the planet.

Thoughtful Design, Responsible Materials

When designing show homes, we carefully consider not only aesthetics and functionality, but also the origin and lifecycle of the materials we specify. From furniture to fabrics, our aim is to make choices that reduce environmental impact without compromising on quality or style.

In this recently completed bedroom scheme, sustainability played a key role in the design:

  • Furniture crafted from recycled pine, giving new life to existing materials

  • 100% biodegradable jute rug, offering natural texture with minimal environmental impact

  • Sustainably grown rattan elements, bringing warmth and an organic feel to the space

  • Soft furnishings made from recycled materials, including curtains, headboard, and cushions

In fact, over 1,600 plastic bottles were diverted from landfill and waterways, recycled and transformed into the beautiful fabrics used throughout this room.

Sustainable Can Still Be Stylish

There’s a common misconception that eco-friendly design limits creativity—but this couldn’t be further from the truth. This bedroom demonstrates how natural textures, soft neutral tones, and delicate detailing can come together to create a calm, inviting space that feels both luxurious and responsible.

By embracing recycled and renewable materials, we can design interiors that not only look good but also do good.

Looking Ahead

As we celebrate Earth Day, we remain committed to continuously improving our approach—seeking out innovative materials, collaborating with like-minded suppliers, and supporting developers who prioritise sustainability.

Because every design decision, no matter how small, contributes to a bigger picture.
